Steven Cree

Steven Cree was born on 29 February 1980 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland, and trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) after a year at Langside College in Glasgow. He built an early career across British theatre, television and film, including a recurring role in the BBC Three drama Lip Service, the BBC’s Shetland, and voicing Young MacIntosh in Pixar’s Brave (2012).

Steven is best known as Ian Murray, Jamie Fraser’s loyal brother-in-law, in the Starz historical drama Outlander, a recurring role he has played from the show’s earliest seasons through to its more recent instalments. He went on to play the vampire Gallowglass in the fantasy series A Discovery of Witches (2018–2022), and appeared in the historical epic Outlaw King (2018) alongside fellow Scot Chris Pine.
