Robert Llewellyn

Robert Llewellyn was born on 10 March 1956 in Northampton, England. Before his acting career he worked as a shoemaker, before organising cabaret evenings and forming the alternative comedy theatre group The Joeys. It was his Edinburgh Fringe show Mammon, Robot Born of Woman — about an android whose behaviour deteriorates as it becomes more human — that caught the attention of the Red Dwarf producers and led to his casting.
Robert has played Kryten, the hapless sanitation mechanoid in Red Dwarf, from the third series onward, joining the regular cast in 1989. Beyond Red Dwarf, he presented ten series of Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge, and is now known as a passionate advocate for electric vehicles through his YouTube channel and conventions series, Everything Electric. He has also written fourteen books, including the memoir The Man in the Rubber Mask.
