Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway was born on 20 July 1969 in San Jose, California, and grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia — an upbringing that informed his easy Southern manner and the rugged charm that would make his career. He had a successful career as a model before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue acting, landing small roles in Angel, Walker: Texas Ranger and CSI, and the lead in a Sci-Fi Channel creature feature. He was close to giving up acting and had earned his real estate licence as a fallback when he auditioned for Lost — famously losing his lines partway through, kicking a chair in frustration, and completing the monologue anyway. The producers immediately rewrote the character to match his rougher presence.

He is best known as James “Sawyer” Ford, the roguish, wisecracking con man with a wounded heart at the centre of the science fiction drama Lost (2004–2010), a role which brought him a Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television in 2010 and a Screen Actors Guild Award alongside the ensemble cast. He went on to star in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) and the science fiction drama Colony (2016–2018) before a recurring role in the western series Yellowstone. Most recently he leads the crime series Duster (2025).
