John Boyega

John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega was born on 17 March 1992 in Peckham, London, to British-Nigerian parents. He trained at the Identity School of Acting in Hackney and first came to prominence in the UK with his captivating lead performance as Moses in the science fiction comedy horror film Attack the Block (2011), in which a teenage gang defend their South London estate from an alien invasion. The role earned him recognition as one of Screen International’s UK Stars of Tomorrow. In 2015, John achieved international stardom when he was cast as Finn — a First Order stormtrooper who defects to join the Resistance — in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the beginning of the sequel trilogy. He reprised the role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), and won the BAFTA Rising Star Award for his performance in the first film.
Beyond Star Wars, John has starred in Kathryn Bigelow’s historical drama Detroit (2017), Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018), and The Woman King (2022). He won a Golden Globe Award for his role in Steve McQueen’s small-screen anthology Small Axe (2020). John founded his own production company, UpperRoom Entertainment, in 2016.
