John Bell

John Bellwas born on 20 October 1997 in Paisley, Scotland, and made his television debut at the age of nine playing Creet in the Doctor Who episode “Utopia” after winning a Blue Peter competition. His early career included the BAFTA-winning CBBC series Tracy Beaker Returns and the fantasy epics The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, in which he played Bain, son of Bard the Bowman. He also appeared in the science fiction action film Battleship (2012).

Since 2017, John has played Young Ian Murray, nephew of Jamie Fraser, across seasons three through eight of the Starz drama Outlander, becoming one of the show’s most enduring younger cast members. In 2022, he headlined a revival of the Off-Broadway one-man show The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre.
