Jessica Henwick

Jessica Yu-Li Henwick was born on 30 August 1992 in Surrey, England, to a Singaporean-Chinese mother and a Zambian-born English father. She trained at the National Youth Theatre and made history at sixteen as the first actress of East Asian descent to lead a British television series, starring as Bo in CBBC’s Spirit Warriors.

Jessica auditioned for six months for the role of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens — and although she didn’t win the part, director J.J. Abrams was so impressed he wrote her a new role: X-wing pilot Jessika “Jess” Pava, who became an immediate fan favourite despite limited screen time. The same year, she joined HBO’s epic fantasy series Game of Thrones as Nymeria Sand, one of the formidable Sand Snakes, training for six months to master a traditional bullwhip for the role. In 2017 she became Colleen Wing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing across Iron Fist, The Defenders and Luke Cage, before joining the cast of The Matrix Resurrections (2021) as Bugs.
