James Marsters

James Marsters was born on 20 August 1962 in Greenville, California, and trained at Juilliard, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and the American Conservatory Theatre. He spent ten years working in regional theatre across Chicago and Seattle before moving to Los Angeles to pursue screen acting.

He is best known as Spike, the platinum-blond, leather-clad punk vampire who became one of television’s most beloved anti-heroes across Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003) and its supernatural spin-off Angel (1999–2004) — a role originally intended to last only a handful of episodes before overwhelming fan response made him a series regular. He won two Saturn Awards for the role. James went on to play the alien supervillain Brainiac in Smallville, the omnisexual time-traveller Captain John Hart in Torchwood, and narrated the audiobooks for Jim Butcher’s bestselling Dresden Files novels. He also voices Zamasu in the English dub of Dragon Ball Super.
