Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly was born on 3 August 1979 in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada, and grew up in British Columbia. She was discovered by the Ford Modelling Agency while walking down a street in Kelowna — a meeting she initially ignored — but eventually signed with them to help pay her way through an International Relations degree at the University of British Columbia. Before her acting breakthrough she worked as a flight attendant, waitress, and performed oil changes on big rigs between commercial auditions.

She rose to international fame as Kate Austen, the resourceful and complex female lead of the science fiction drama Lost (2004–2010), appearing in 108 of the show’s 121 episodes. The role earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series and six Saturn Award nominations. She went on to star as the elf warrior Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, and as Hope van Dyne / The Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming the first female superhero to be a titular character in an MCU film with Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), and reprising the role in Avengers: Endgame (2019). She is also the author of the children’s book series The Squickerwonkers. In 2024, Lilly announced a break from acting to focus on her writing and humanitarian work.
