Emily Deschanel

Emily Deschanel was born on 11 October 1976 in Los Angeles, California, into a deeply creative family — her father is the Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, her mother is actress Mary Jo Deschanel, and her younger sister is actress and singer Zooey Deschanel. She graduated from Boston University’s Professional Actors Training Program in 1998, having earlier appeared in a small role in her father’s film It Could Happen to You.

She is best known for her twelve-season role as Dr Temperance “Bones” Brennan, a brilliant but socially awkward forensic anthropologist, in the long-running Fox procedural Bones (2005–2017), based on the work of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs. The chemistry between Deschanel and co-star David Boreanaz became the emotional engine of the show across its 246-episode run. She also appeared in Stephen King’s horror miniseries Rose Red (2002) and the 2022 Netflix series Devil in Ohio.
