David Labrava

David M. Labrava was born on 19 October 1962 in Miami, Florida, and spent much of his childhood in Europe, where he grew up riding dirt bikes before acquiring his first Harley-Davidson at seventeen. He became deeply embedded in motorcycle culture, including time as a member of the Hells Angels, before transitioning into the film industry as a camera operator and writer.
David’s authentic biker background led directly to one of television’s most memorable performances: hired initially as a technical advisor to ensure authenticity on the FX crime drama Sons of Anarchy, creator Kurt Sutter recognised his presence and cast him as Happy Lowman, the Sergeant-at-Arms and stoic enforcer of the SAMCRO motorcycle club, a role he played across all seven seasons from 2008 to 2014. He reprised the role in the spinoff Mayans M.C. Beyond acting, David runs a tattoo studio called Evil Ink in Oakland, California, and has published an autobiography, Becoming a Son.
