Charisma Carpenter

Charisma Carpenter was born on 23 July 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was discovered by a commercial agent while waiting tables in Los Angeles to fund her college education. She had worked previously as an NFL cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers. After a guest spot on Baywatch and a starring role in Aaron Spelling’s short-lived soap Malibu Shores, she auditioned for the lead role of Buffy Summers itself.
Though she didn’t land the title role, Charisma was instead cast as Cordelia Chase, the sharp-tongued former Sunnydale High queen bee, across three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–1999) and four further seasons of its supernatural spin-off Angel (1999–2004), appearing in 140 episodes across both shows and watching her character grow from comic relief into one of the franchise’s most emotionally complex figures. She also played the demon Kyra in Charmed (2004) and Kendall Casablancas in Veronica Mars. She has spoken openly about workplace difficulties during her time on Angel, and remains a much-loved figure at conventions worldwide, where she regularly reunites with her Buffyverse castmates.
