Carrie Henn

Carrie Henn

Caroline “Carrie” Henn was born on 7 May 1976, the daughter of a US Air Force Master Sergeant whose postings took the family to England in the mid-1980s. At nine years old, with absolutely no prior acting experience, she was spotted by casting agents while in her school cafeteria near the family’s base at RAF Lakenheath and invited to audition at Pinewood Studios.

She remains beloved by generations of fans as Newt, the sole young survivor of a colonial outpost overrun by xenomorphs, in James Cameron’s science fiction classic Aliens (1986) — a role that earned her the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor. Despite the film’s enormous success, Henn chose not to pursue further acting and instead trained as a teacher, graduating from California State University, Stanislaus, and going on to teach elementary school in California for many years. Since around 2008 she has become an active and beloved presence at sci-fi conventions worldwide, delighting fans with stories from the Aliens set and her enduring friendship with co-star Sigourney Weaver.
