Denise Gough

Denise Gough was born in Wexford, Ireland, and trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) in London, graduating in 2003. She made her television debut in Casualty in 2004 and built a distinguished career across stage and screen, becoming one of Ireland’s most celebrated stage actresses with a Tony Award nomination on Broadway for her performance in Angels in America. Her television work includes the BBC Two crime drama Paula (2017) and the ITV psychological thriller Too Close (2021).
It was her extraordinary stage work that caught the eye of Star Wars: Andor creator Tony Gilroy, who cast her as the terrifying Imperial Security Bureau supervisor Dedra Meero in the Disney+ series Andor (2022–2025). Gough’s portrayal of Meero — ice-cold, ambitious, and utterly compelling — became one of the most talked-about performances in the show, drawing widespread critical acclaim across both seasons.
